Perkins and LS Tractor collaboration is a Brazilian success story.

LS Tractor, a division of South Korea’s LS Mitron, is a global producer of agricultural equipment with manufacturing locations in South Korea, China and Brazil. In the 10 years their state-of-the-art facility in Garuva, Santa Catarina, Brazil has been in operation, it has grown to be one of the most important manufacturers in the up-to-145 hp (108 kW) market in Brazil and Latin America.

A significant element of their success is attributed to the collaboration between LS Tractor and Perkins. It began in 2018 with the launch of two tractors locally designed for the Brazilian market.

The LS Tractor H125 and H145 are powered by Perkins® 1104D-44TA engines that provide 128 and 145 hp (95 and 108 kW) respectively. They were followed in 2019 by the Perkins powered P80, P90 and P100 models in the LS Plus Series range. All of the engines meet Brazil’s MAR 1 emission standards.

Today, Perkins engines power all of LS’ tractors over 75 hp (56 kW) – the equivalent of 60 percent of all tractors manufactured by the company. Supported by Perkins, this percentage is set to become even higher.

Astor Kilpp, LS Mitron’s sales and marketing manager in Brazil notes that: “We can attribute part of these results to our brand’s premises of getting into relationships that enhance our ability of providing global competitivity and increase our potential growth.”

“A good example,” Astor added, “is LS’ collaboration with Perkins, an engine brand which is renowned worldwide and highly recognised for understanding the needs of Brazilian farmers, after operating in the country for over 60 years.”

Astor singled out the Perkins engine’s excellent torque profile which allows them to operate at lower rpm for most tasks while having sufficient torque in reserve for more demanding requirements as a major reason for the collaboration’s success. The result, Astor says, is a combination of excellent performance and outstanding fuel economy.

As a consequence, growers and agriculturalists can maximise their productivity while minimising operation costs. This efficiency not only contributes to more sustainable agriculture, but also allows growers to further increase their profit.
