Perkins and Starkgen are working to power progress.

Founded in 2017 by Dogukan Dincer, and based in Istanbul, Turkey, Starkgen Generator has grown rapidly to include customers in the Middle East, Europe, Africa, Asia, CIS, South America and, in the near future, North America. Its product line includes generator sets with outputs ranging from 9 to 2500 kVA with all of its premium models powered exclusively by Perkins engines.

Starkgen has built an international reputation for delivering diverse power solutions that recognise the huge variation in power needs around the world. An ongoing project in the African nation of Mali provides an excellent example of Starkgen’s ability to respond to critical demands.

Keeping Mali connected

Mali has no main power grid and 10–12-hour long shortages are common throughout the country. Keeping the telecommunications industry running under these conditions is a major challenge. Simply put, without service, the people of Mali would likely have issues with everything from education and healthcare to commerce and industry.

Working with Mali telecom companies, Starkgen has, so far, provided 139 generator sets to power a nationwide mix of new and existing cell towers. An additional 230 generator sets are on order to provide additional coverage. All of these Starkgen generator sets are powered by Perkins engines. Depending on the application the engine is either a Perkins^® 404A-22G1, 1103A-33G, 1103A-33G2 or 1104C-44TAG2.

To ensure reliable uptime many of the generator sets are equipped with Starkgen-designed 1,000 litre extended fuel tanks to support 24-hour operation. In addition, all of the generator sets have base frames and control panels specially configured for use in Mali. The entire project took more than 10 months to plan and execute.

Supporting the project

Perkins authorised distributors and local dealers are an important part of the project, providing maintenance, service and repair resources for the Starkgen generator sets in Mali and virtually anywhere else Starkgen generator sets are at work.

“When our customers need service, the number of Perkins distributors across the globe makes it easier to have personnel available to get their generators running again,” Dogukan says. “Plus, customers trust the Perkins brand. We can move much faster, and more doors open because we work with Perkins.”
