When failure is not an option PowerCo depends on Perkins
The world’s busiest airport for international passengers handles more than 92 million people every year. Located in Dubai at Al Garhoud, the airport presents unique operational challenges, not the least of which are periodic sandstorms that can block out the sun and cause power outages
An airport, of course, cannot function without power and that’s where long-time builder of Perkins powered generator sets, PowerCo Systems International, Ltd. enters the picture. Based in Scarborough, England, PowerCo has been supporting the airport with standby and emergency power generator sets for more than a decade.
PowerCo chose the Perkins® 5000 Series engine for their latest upgrade in Dubai. The 5000 Series includes fully electronic inline 6- and 8-cylinder models along with V8 and V12 engines, all optimised for power generation applications.
Perkins® 5000 Series engines were designed from the ground up for power generation applications including baseload, prime and standby installations. They are engineered to provide reliable, cost-effective performance across the full range of environmental conditions from high altitudes to the desert.
For the latest upgrade in Dubai, PowerCo chose the Perkins® 5008 Series to meet the growing demands of the airport. The 5008 is an 8-cylinder inline engine that produces 1250 kVA prime power.
“Perkins 5000 Series engines are a good match for this project,” noted PowerCo sales manager, Chris Errington. “They allowed us to meet U.S. EPA Tier 2 emission and power output requirements, and we knew they would be reliable based on our experience with the 4000 Series over the years.”
Industries served by PowerCo include hospitals, factories, offices, construction sites, banks, telecommunications systems and data centres as well as airports. All have critical requirements for reliable power along with needs for efficiency and low fuel costs – conditions Perkins powered PowerCo solutions have reliably met around the world.
Because so many of their customers rely on PowerCo systems for critical functions, the global availability of parts and service support is also an important reason the company chooses Perkins for so many of its high-profile applications.
“The global Perkins distributor network has always been helpful when it’s needed, which isn’t very often,” he noted. “We need to be confident that what we’re supplying is going to do the job and it’s going to be reliable. We’ve been satisfied with the Perkins brand. It’s proven itself time and time again.”
With 92 million passengers depending on reliable power, failure is not an option at Al Garhoud or any of PowerCo’s other installations. That’s a big reason why so many of them are powered by Perkins.
