A necessary engine upgrade

The Perkins® 5000 Series is a fully electronic range of inline six and eight cylinder and V12 and V16 cylinder engines with a range of 750 to 2500 kVA of power potential. The 5000 Series was designed to provide quick, reliable and cost-effective power. In November 2024, PowerCo updated its generator sets to the Perkins® 5008 engine with 1250 kVA prime power to meet rising power requirements for the airport.

The long-term collaboration between PowerCo and Perkins meant the generator set was ordered, assembled, installed and commissioned in only five months. PowerCo supplies prime and standby power to hospitals, factories, offices, construction sites, airports, banks, telecommunications systems or other entities where reliable power is essential.

The engine behind the generator sets PowerCo chose the Perkins 5008 engine for the Dubai International Airport project. Perkins 5000 Series engines are designed for critical power applications, baseload, prime and standby power. The 5000 Series has been optimised and tested to deliver cost-effective, reliable performance, no matterthe location or demand.

“The Perkins 5000 Series engines were a good match for the specifications of this project,” says Chris Errington, sales manager of PowerCo. “They allowed us to meet the U.S. EPA Tier 2 requirements and power output requirements. We knew the 5000 Series would be reliable because of our success with the 4000 Series over the years.”

Perkins engines have proven to be incredibly dependable for PowerCo, but in the rare instance there is a problem, the Perkins team has been quick to find solutions. “The distributor network globally has always been helpful when it’s been needed, which isn’t very often,” says Chris. “We want to be confident that what we’re supplying is going to do the job, and it’s going to be reliable. We’ve been satisfied with the Perkins brand. It’s proven itself time and time again.”
