Don’t idle when there’s a smarter way to stay cool
When you drive thousands of miles a year, delivering goods across the country, your truck is your home away from home. All your creature comforts from the microwave to the TV, and internet to air conditioning keeping you cool, need a reliable source of electricity. Idling the truck engine used to be the only option, but it’s loud, consumes fuel and raises maintenance costs. Thanks to EcoFleet, there is now a potentially more cost-effective alternative: the HP2000 Auxiliary Power Unit (APU).
Engineered to save money
EcoFleet built the HP2000 APU with the truck driver and fleet owner-operator in mind. It delivers air conditioning to the cab, battery charging, coolant warming for the truck and power-generation capabilities. It generates enough electricity to run equipment such as a TV and internet while circulating coolant through the vehicle to keep the engine block warm.
Perkins® 400 Series delivers reliable power
The HP2000 APU uses a 13.7 horsepower Perkins 2-cylinder diesel engine. EcoFleet owner Cameron McCurdy says the engine’s small footprint, high power output and light weight are important considerations for the APU industry. According to EcoFleet, APUs typically consume around 0.15 gallons per hour in a large-format truck. Depending on operating conditions and usage, EcoFleet says customers can expect a return on investment within approximately 12 months and may recoup their investment multiple times over the life of the APU.
Perkins® Platinum Protection on every unit
Every EcoFleet unit includes Perkins® Platinum Protection as standard, providing a four-year, 6,000-hour warranty on engine components and repairs. McCurdy says the warranty supports customer confidence and that most owners have not needed to use it because of the engine’s reliability.
“This Perkins engine is the only one that we’ve found that has such a small footprint, high power output, and is lightweight.”
Cameron McCurdy, EcoFleet owner
