Reliable prime power for mining operations

Zijin Mining Group Co., Ltd. is a large-scale mining business mainly focused on the extraction of gold, copper and zinc. It operates across 24 provinces in China and in nine countries including Canada, Australia, Papua New Guinea, Russia, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, South Africa, Congo (Kinshasa) and Peru.

Zijin Mining depends on Perkins prime power solutions to provide energy in remote locations. When they needed a reliable prime power source for sites in Central Africa, Zijin Mining found a solution in Sumec’s Perkins-powered generator sets. Sumec uses a Perkins® 4016-61TRG3 engine in the sets to provide a prime power solution in the copper mine, enabling construction work to be carried out on time.

To date, Zijin Mining has purchased 18 Sumec generator sets, powered by Perkins 1800 kW engines.

“The 16-cylinder Perkins® 4016 provides the versatility customers need in today’s power generation market,” said Vivian Ye, general sales manager at Lei Shing Hong Machinery, which supplies the engines to China-based Sumec.

“The engine has proven reliability in prime and standby installations and is ideal for these types of large-scale power generation requirements,” she added. “Both Sumec and the customer are very satisfied with the performance of this Perkins engine in the field.”
