Green Power generator sets, powered by Perkins® 4000 Series engines, are playing a critical role in keeping the communities of Northeast Italy safe from environmental catastrophes.
It was 1976 when disaster struck the region of Friuli Venezia Giulia in Northeast Italy. A devastating earthquake caused untold damage to buildings and infrastructure – and claimed the lives of more than 1,000 people.
The recovery and regeneration of the area was co-ordinated by a specially created government department called Civil Protection. Today, the organisation – which is headquartered in the city of Palmanova – continues with its important work preventing and preparing for potentially destructive environmental events.
At the heart of its HQ lies a state-of-the-art control centre. From here, staff monitor geological and other environmental activity, and use evaluation and analysis to forecast and predict natural catastrophes before they happen.
All the information collected by Civil Protection is stored in a powerful on-site data centre. Because this data plays a critical role in public safety, it’s essential the power supply is designed never to fail.
For that reason, the organisation decided to invest in a reliable emergency power solution that would provide instant standby support in the event of any power outage.
Civil Protection chose Green Power Generators as the manufacturer to supply the solution. Green Power is renowned for its product quality and performance and with a presence on eight continents and a staff of more than 70 people, the company is an EP leader both in Italy and internationally.
Green Power has also invested more than €10m in recent years on new machines and facilities to help maintain a leading position.
To meet Civil Protection’s requirements to fully safeguard its power supply, Green Power recommended two generator sets powered by ultra-dependable Perkins® 4008TAG2A engines.
“A Perkins-powered generator set was selected for this installation because of the proven quality and dependability you get with a Perkins engine and the unit’s competitive price,” said product manager Alberto Brugnettini.
The Perkins 4008TAG2A engines installed in the generators provide total peace of mind for Civil Protection. These platforms have delivered thousands of hours of proven reliability in prime and standby installations in all of the key sectors, including manufacturing facilities, hospitals, and, most importantly in this case, data centres.
Green Power and its customer also benefit from the platform’s exceptional power-to-weight ratios and compact designs, which make them simple to transport and install.
“The customer has already recognised the value and reliability that our Perkins-powered generator sets are providing,” added Mr Brugnettini.
