Perkins and Turkish generator manufacturer Alimar joined forces to support the Turkish Electricity Transmission Corporation (TEİAŞ) in a timely fashion when the utility needed a way to prevent energy interruptions while transformer maintenance was carried out in the city of Konya.
Electricity is an essential part of modern life. Provision of a reliable and uninterrupted electrical supply to all consumers falls to utilities such as TEİAŞ, the Turkish Electricity Transmission Corporation.
TEİAŞ is responsible for the installation, operation and maintenance of Turkey’s power system, throughout the country. It operates 66,453 km of power transmission lines, 729 substations, 163.849 MVA of transformer power and 12 interconnection lines with neighbour countries.
The utility takes pride in providing a livable, sustainable environment now and for future generations by working in a responsible manner on every project. It demands equally high standards of its suppliers, one of which is Alimar, an established Turkish manufacturer of equipment including generators.
When TEİAŞ faced a challenge on a transformer maintenance project in the city of Konya, it turned to Alimar – a Perkins customer – for a solution.
Completion of the project risked causing interruptions in the city’s energy supply. To prevent that, Alimar supplied 29 Perkins-powered generator sets to maintain supply at critical locations in Konya.
Alimar demonstrated its capabilities by building, testing, delivering, installing and commissioning all the generator sets in one month. Included in the order were 26 units powered by Perkins® 1104A-44TG1 engines and three units running on Perkins® 1104C-44TAG2 engines. The units are low on fuel and oil consumption, are smooth and quiet to run and can also be electronically controlled.
Since it was set up in Ankara in 1956, Alimar has built a reputation for its products and customer service. The company’s diesel and petrol generators rated from 3-2500 kVA, its light towers, welding machines and synchronised systems have consistently met customer expectations on price, quality and short delivery time. It now has five district offices and 20 dealers in Turkey and 25 dealers around the world.
“Alimar and Perkins have a long history of successful collaboration on generator sets,” said Ahmet Savaş, Electrical and Electronics Engineer at Alimar. “We chose Perkins engines for their quality and their experience in supplying power ranges all over the world.
“Thanks to our collaboration we were able to deliver the generator sets to the customer sites, mount all of the units carefully and ensure they were successfully installed for the customer – all in one month.”
In 2016, Alimar moved into a new 15,000 m2 factory on 45,000 m2 of space in Balikesir industry zone. The OEM has started work on a second factory of 17,500 m2 which will allow its experienced and specialist workforce to increase annual output to 7,000 generator sets.
