Established in 1907, Alembic Pharmaceuticals Limited is one of India’s leading pharmaceutical companies. As reliable power is vital to its operation, the company quickly settled on generator set manufacturer Supernova to support its standby power requirements.
When you’re running a sprawling manufacturing plant, you need to make sure your processes are streamlined. Keeping your business running is paramount and one of the pre-requisites to enable this is access to a reliable power supply.
Established in 1907, Alembic Pharmaceuticals Limited is one of India’s leading pharmaceutical companies. Headquartered in Vadodara, Gujarat, it is recognised in the industry as a sector leader in India in the macrolides segment of anti–infective drugs.
The company has nine manufacturing facilities across the country catering to the demands of the healthcare sector. To keep up with the upward demand that has been seen over the last few years, all its facilities need to keep manufacturing without interruption. So, if the worst happens and the power fails, then a reliable standby power solution is required to keep the facilities in production.
“We are globally recognised for our research and development, manufacturing, product commercialisation as well as compliance with international regulatory standards,” explains Jignesh Patel, manager (Engineering) at Alembic Pharmaceuticals Limited. “These are areas of core competence. Therefore, we do not compromise on our service providers, and collaborate with companies that have similar standards.”
When the team at Alembic Pharmaceuticals Limited started to investigate their standby power options, they quickly settled on generator set manufacturer Supernova, and the Perkins diesel engines fitted them.
‘’When we looked for diesel generator sets and OEM suppliers that meet our requirements, we decided to go ahead with Supernova and Perkins,” says Jignesh. “They are strong in standby power source and Perkins engines are well known for their performance, low-cost operation and the standard support they offer.”
To date, Alembic Pharmaceuticals Limited has installed eight Supernova generator sets powered by Perkins diesel engines to support a number of different projects. The pharmaceutical company highlights the performance of the engine and the support offered by Supernova among the key reasons for continuing to use select these generator sets. Indeed, Alembic Pharmaceuticals Ltd is so satisfied with the performance provided, it now only uses Perkins diesel engines to provide the back-up power supply at its manufacturing plants.
The latest project undertaken by Alembic Pharmaceuticals Limited uses two Perkins® 4012-46TAG2A diesel engines, each delivering a powerful 1500 kVA to fulfil all the back-up power requirements – equivalent to about 200 hours a year.
Jignesh states: “We installed the engine back in 2018, and it has been functioning without any hitch till date. The engine durability, excellent power-to-weight ratios, as well as outstanding load acceptance and emissions compliancy make it a preferable option for a standby diesel generator set in the market.”
Jignesh says: “We’ve worked closely with Supernova and Perkins for the past couple of years, and they have been wonderful. They have a brilliant team that is always available to address the tiniest needs. Their customer service is premium.
“Supernova, backed by Perkins engines, is truly a pioneer in providing the required energy support in an efficient way. We are completely dependent on them for their advance technology in system integration, build quality and superior reliability. Constant supply is a key factor for us and Perkins rises to the occasion and meets all our needs.”
He adds: “Perkins engines are really durable, and have a high load acceptance capacity – even for its compact size. We have not faced any operational or service issues with any of our generator sets and are looking forward to continuing our collaboration with Perkins and Supernova in the future.”
