Ahead of the curve on electric power

Residential driveways aren’t the only places seeing an inundation of electric vehicles. From warehouses to remote worksites around the country, electric power vehicles and equipment are being adopted and deployed at a record pace—so much so that the electric power infrastructure used to charge them simply hasn’t kept up with demand. Seeing an opportunity in the marketplace, Powerhouse Diesel Generators (PDG) began to engineer electric power generator sets built around Perkins engines to meet those demands head-on.

After testing multiple options, PDG chose the Perkins® 2800 Series as the engine to underpin its growing electric power generation portfolio. It was the latest addition to the Perkins-powered solutions that their customers have come to trust. “Having the Perkins engine in our product lends credibility to us,” says Scott Tyler, PDG President, “but also there’s a peace of mind knowing that when we send [our machine] out there, it’s just going to work.”

Power players in the generator set market

For more than a decade, Powerhouse Diesel Generators (PDG) has steadily grown into one of the largest providers of custom on-site power solutions in the U.S. From prime to backup power applications, PDG works with customers to engineer and build products for the industrial and commercial sectors. Most of their solutions for electric power generation use Perkins engines in applications ranging from agricultural, mining, and construction equipment to expansive commercial vehicle fleets.

As the appointed Perkins distributor for the Southeast region of the United States, Pathfinder Power Solutions provides engineering to OEM customers and offers engineering, parts, service, and support for Perkins engine owners and operators. Pathfinder has cultivated a years-long relationship as an engine supplier for PDG and their growing portfolio of generator sets.

Service that doesn’t quit

Just as crucial to their brand and their customers as the dependability of their products is PDG’s dedication to service and support. “We try to make everyone family,” notes Tyler, “and know that no matter what the situation is, no matter when it is, they can pick up the phone and call us.”

More than just an engine supplier to their customers, Pathfinder has built a reputation as a go-to problem solver for anyone who puts their Perkins engines to work. “PDG is incredible to give their [customers] support,” says Jeremy Smith, Sales Manager for Pathfinder, “but when they’re not able to, we’re a phone call away. I’m answering the call at 2:00 in the morning or 2:00 in the afternoon.” That dedication has helped PDG’s customer support reach even greater heights.

When it comes to building and maintaining cutting-edge solutions like PDG’s electric power chargers, that dedication to service goes a long way. It’s what helps customers in their home state and around the world confidently invest in the electric equipment that’s driving the next chapter in industries from agriculture to construction to material handling and beyond.

The right engine for the job

To ensure that the 2800 Series was the right solution to help them meet the seemingly endless demand for remote and stand-alone electric power, PDG turned to its Perkins distributor and engine supplier, Pathfinder Power Solutions. Working with Pathfinder, the PDG team determined that its power, durability, and compact frame made the 2800 Series the best fit.

“Having the Perkins engine in our product lends credibility to us,” says Scott Tyler, PDG President, “but also there’s a peace of mind knowing that when we send [our machine] out there, it’s just going to work..”
