Perkins Hosur – a culture of quality

Perkins Hosur – a culture of quality

The Hosur facility in Southern India is the latest manufacturing site to go live producing Perkins engines. Around 220 people work at the facility making 1100 Series engines. The highly-skilled team at Hosur works to the exacting quality standards followed in all Perkins facilities across the globe.

The manufacturing plant was developed by Perkins to build medium-sized engines for the Asia-Pacific market, with production starting in October 2015.

The facility is located in the middle of the vibrant industrial town of Hosur, around 40 kilometres from the southern capital city of Bangalore. The nearest port is Chennai, a few hours away to the east.

Faster delivery times

The Hosur facility gives us and our customers in the Asia Pacific Region and Indian sub-continent the significant advantages of faster delivery times and greater ease of doing business.

Using our world-class global supply base, we are able to provide customers with the engine they need, tailored to their specific requirements.

It is also a big advantage to have the main port of Chennai so close by, providing quick access to the Asia-Pacific area.

Stringent quality controls

The Hosur team works to exactly the same high standards as all our other factories. Engines are produced using the Caterpillar Production System (CPS) established in all Perkins manufacturing operations. The CPS ensures the same efficient processes and stringent quality controls are implemented at every facility.

Perkins 1100 Series engines made in Hosur were designed in Peterborough. These engines have been replicated exactly by the team in India using components and tools manufactured to precisely the same specification and quality as in Peterborough. Stringent process control also means every critical fastening is tightened precisely to specification, every time.

A real quality culture has been developed at Hosur, and the experienced well-trained workforce has embraced the Perkins ethos and the way the company works.

Here in Hosur we have replicated the products designed and built in Peterborough. The components we use in the manufacture of the engines and the tools we use on the production line in Hosur are of the same standard and quality seen right across the globe in Perkins products.
