During the last 20 years, having put more than 150,000 engines to work in its generator sets, it's fair to say PowerLink has an enviable grasp of the global demands for mobile and distributed power.

During the last 20 years, having put more than 150,000 engines to work in its generator sets, it’s fair to say PowerLink has an enviable grasp of the global demands for mobile and distributed power.
Originally founded in Shanghai, China, the PowerLink Group today has grown to have factories and offices in the UK, China and Australia, bases from which it meets the multiple and varied needs of customers ranging from factories to shopping centres, hotels to airports and even power stations to grids.
“All our diesel generators are capable of meeting global emission and electrical standards, whether that’s non-regulated emission, EU Stage V or U.S. EPA Tier 4 Final,” explains Nicholas Deaton, sales administrator for the UK division of the PowerLink Group.
“With such a diverse and varied global customer base, we certainly have challenges. Each country has its own rules and regulations to observe, but one of our strengths is the ability to conduct and check all that analysis on our customers’ behalf.
“We – and more importantly, the customer – can be absolutely confident that the generator is entirely compliant with local laws before we even start the sales procedure with the customer,” Nicholas notes.
One of the company’s most popular and enduring model ranges is the EP series. Powered by Perkins engines and Leroy Somer alternators, there’s an EP model to suit most needs: power outputs run the gamut from 10 kVA up to 2250 kVA.
“What customers love about this range is its reliability and durability,” Nicholas points out. “Whether in the private or public sector, industrial or business, to the rental market, an EP model can be employed either as a prime continuous power supply or as a trusty standby unit to supply quick, emergency, back-up power.
“The range meets a myriad of different application needs, according to location, requirement and application, and taking into account special needs such as low-noise or an open design configuration.”
As with the EP series, the Perkins engine is the backbone of the units: Nicholas says the kudos and credibility of the Perkins brand exerts a noticeable influence on customers’ specifying behaviours.
“It’s thanks to the long-lasting reliability of the Perkins engines that our customers are always appreciative that we can help them maintain their normal operations by providing a generator with a high-quality engine.
“But if they do encounter any problems, both we and our customer are hugely grateful for the exemplary Perkins service and support system.
“It’s a great asset for us, and our customers place great value on the ability of Perkins support in resolving any problems they encounter,” adds Nicholas.
Typical engines used in the EP series include the 2000 Series – especially the 2506C-E15TAG2 that lies at the heart of the popular 500 kVA generator set. Meanwhile, the 250 kVA generator is usually specified with the 1206A-E70TTAG3, while another engine from the 1100 Series – the 1104C-44TAG2 – provides power for the 100 kVA option. It’s a 1100 Series choice too – the 60 kVA generator set which uses the 1103A-33TG2 is finding strong popularity with the PowerLink clientele, reveals Nicholas.
He says it vindicates PowerLink’s decision, over the last 20 years, to use the full range of Perkins engines to support the company’s values of quality, innovation, stability and return on investment. “With Perkins being a well-known brand worldwide, not only does it help us attract new customers, but it also makes it easier for us to choose our own distributors.
“Whether it’s in design optimisation, aftersales support or diagnostics, we select our distributors according to their Perkins brand knowledge, engine expertise and familiarity.
“It’s another deciding factor in appealing to the widest possible customer demographic.”
