Sustainability may be a relatively new term in the construction industry, but the policies and practices necessary to achieve it have been integral parts of the business from the very beginning. That’s the message that emerges from a recent investigation of the industry’s sustainability efforts by International Construction magazine.
At the fundamental level, sustainability is essentially a search for improved efficiency and productivity, the article says, and both are goals the industry has pursued from day-one. What’s different today are the methods and technologies available to achieve the improvements.
The article cites a range of technologies from the application of Artificial Intelligence in cement production to the electrification of construction equipment that are changing the way construction companies approach sustainability issues. Regardless of the method, however, the goal remains unchanged – to do more with less and do it faster without sacrificing quality.
