The Construction Index reports that April marked the third consecutive month of construction output growth in Great Britain according to the Office for National Statistics. The article states that the 0.9 percent growth in April comes after an increase of 0.5 percent in March and 0.2 percent in February.
The growth was spread across both new work and repair and maintenance projects with infrastructure leading the way in new work with 2.0 percent growth while housing repair and maintenance was up by 1.5 percent. In total, first quarter output growth was estimated at 0.5 percent.
Numbers for the construction industry were all the more impressive when compared to the real gross domestic product which fell 0.3 percent in April. They are also in contrast to a recent survey of construction purchasing managers which show the industry in decline over the quarter and into May.
