Operator comfort and safety have emerged as major selling points for earthmoving equipment over the past few years writes Construction Briefing magazine. This is being driven in large part by the global shortage of experienced operators.
According to the article in Construction Briefing magazine, the emphasis on comfort and safety is rapidly being augmented with advanced technologies that make the operator’s job both easier and more productive.
The short-term goal is a machine that applies operator commands with intelligent responses that optimise the efficiency of various inputs like engine power and hydraulic pressure. Then, in a few years, the industry envisions machines that will be capable of performing many routine tasks autonomously, with the operator taking control only for unusual circumstances.
In the end, today’s operator will become tomorrow’s machine supervisor working in a cab with air conditioning, reduced noise levels, air filtration and even Bluetooth connectivity, and wireless phone charging.
