Built to make a difference: The new 5000 Series is driving progress around the world
A full authority electronic range of inline six and eight cylinder and V12 and V16 cylinder engines, the 5000 Series is engineered specifically for the power generation market to supply critical applications such as data centres and hospitals with dependable prime or standby power, where downtime isn’t an option.
The most powerful and largest fully electronic, electric power range from Perkins, the 5000 Series has been designed to optimise customers’ needs for quick, reliable and cost-effective power, while delivering reliability, high performance and peace of mind.
Ranging from 750 to 2500 kVA of power potential, the full authority electronic fuel injection 5000 Series engines are built to world-class standards for high efficiency, low fuel consumption and global emission standards.
Packed with features and the performance to provide dependable power output up to 2500 kVA for standby and 2250 kVA for prime applications, the 5000 Series is designed to supply electrical power when and where needed. Whether for critical power applications, or prime or standby power, the engine range has been optimised and tested to deliver cost-effective, reliable performance.
The full range of 6-, 8-, 12-and 16-cylinder engines are now available, with many engines already powering a range of applications around the world. Here are just a few of them:
Dubai International Airport - Perkins® 5008A-E30TAG
Dubai International Airport is the busiest airport in the world for international passengers with more than 92 million people flying in and out of the airport. Reliable power is essential, so PowerCo Systems International Ltd., a diesel generator set provider, has provided the airport with reliable standby and emergency back-up power for over a decade.
In November 2024, PowerCo updated its generator sets to the Perkins® 5008A-E30TAG engine with 1250 kVA prime power to meet rising power requirements for the airport. The generator set was ordered, assembled, installed and commissioned in only five months.
PowerCo chose the Perkins® 5008 engine for the airport project as the 5000 Series is designed for critical power applications, baseload, prime and standby power.
“The Perkins 5000 Series engines were a good match for the specifications of this project,” says Chris Errington, sales manager of PowerCo. “They allowed us to meet the U.S. EPA Tier 2 requirements and power output requirements. We knew the 5000 Series would be reliable because of our success with the 4000 Series over the years.”
The Royal Victoria Hospital, Northern Ireland – Perkins® 5008 Series
There are several places in the world that cannot afford to lose power and The Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast, Northern Ireland, is one of them.
The healthcare site serves hundreds of thousands of patients every year, and 16 fixed generators are needed to ensure power is maintained.
AC Automation maintains, repairs and replaces the hospital’s generators, and they’ve relied on Marapco to supply those generators for 20 years. Recently, AC Automation chose to replace a 30-year-old container with the MP1100E 1100 kVA Marapco generator, powered by a Perkins® 5008 Series engine.
“A Perkins® 3000 Series engine that had run reliably for 30 years was approaching the end of its lifecycle,” says Jonny Ravey, the estates divisional manager for the Royal Victoria Hospital. “Now, the Perkins® 5008 Series engine powers the generator set backing up the Centralised Boiler House, which maintains the heat and power for the site. It also provides standby power for a central decontamination unit, which sterilises all operating instruments for the site, so the generator is critical.”
And recently many OEMs have launched their new 5000 Series generator sets. They include:
Teksan Generator
In October 2025, Teksan unveiled its new 2500 kVA generator, the TJ2500PE, powered by the Perkins 5016 engine. Teksan said that thanks to the new 5000 Series, customers would benefit from G3-level load acceptance, extended service intervals, and lower total cost of ownership for critical power applications.
Jubaili Bros
In November 2025, Jubaili Bros hosted a large technical seminar in Nigeria for consultants, engineers and energy project specialists. At the event Jubaili promoted its 5000 Series powered generators for critical infrastructure including hospitals, banks, telecommunications and data centres.
Allam Power
The company says its bigger-sized customers, such as airports, are looking for engines made with high-end parts and advanced technology designed to supply cost-effective electrical power, whether to critical power applications, prime continuous or standby power – which is just what the 5000 Series offers,
“People want economical solutions, but also people want that little bit of extra for all the main big installations for hospitals, for refineries, when they run their generators nonstop,” says Simon Woodward, head of engineering.
RCG Power
In October 2025, the first Perkins-powered 5000 Series generator set in Asia rolled off the production line. Manufactured by RCG Power, it marked a significant milestone for both brands. Over the years, Perkins and its distributor LSH have worked closely with RCG Power to support the technical upgrades they have made to their generator set offering. The successful launch of their Perkins-powered 5000 Series generator set reinforced Perkins' position as a leader in the high-end power generation sector.
Other notable successes achieved so far:
In October 2025, Perkins distributor Barloworld Power reported that it has supplied a Perkins 5008 engine to an OEM for use in their rental fleet operating across South Africa. Since its deployment, the engine had successfully logged approximately 600 hours of operation in the field.
Also, in mid-2025, Perkins distributor BU Power Systems Italy supplied a Perkins® 5006 to a generator set OEM, who shipped the set to the UK for integration into a leading store located in Oxford Streed, London. Final commissioning took place in Quarter 4, 2025.
