A recent report in International Rental News outlined the rental industry’s response to the environmental issues associated with its ongoing business practices and the changes being made to address them. Using results of the Glasgow COP26 climate conference as a starting reference, the report covers plans and programmes being implemented by some of the industry’s participants to reduce or eliminate greenhouse gas emissions.
Some of the approaches reported by the companies interviewed in the article include labelling initiatives by equipment manufacturers to identify low-emission machinery; data-driven management of equipment maintenance; monitoring of usage patterns by customers in the field; and, transitions to non-fossil fuels and electric vehicles in rental and support fleets. Rental companies also have been active in creating innovation centres to demonstrate new technologies and expanding impact reduction efforts throughout their supply chains.
