Aruba is Italy’s market leader in providing web-based services in areas like hosting, domains, e-security, data storage and cloud solutions.
In 2017, the company opened the largest data centre in Italy, at Ponte San Pietro in Bergamo, to support the needs of an ever-expanding customer base.
Called the Global Cloud Data Centre, it’s home to an array of advanced technologies, including dedicated servers and complex physical and cloud infrastructure.
One of the site’s standout features is its commitment to minimise energy use. It achieves this by using energy from renewable sources including a hydro-electric plant and photovoltaic system.
In order to fully safeguard continuous power to the centre, and protect the sensitive data it stores and processes, a reliable source of standby support was essential.
To find the right back-up solution, Aruba turned to generator set manufacturer Pramac. The company has built a reputation as a trusted provider of data centre power solutions, delivering high quality engineering, professional service and customer satisfaction at every stage.
Pramac designs and manufactures standard and customised generator sets with power outputs up to 4,000 kVA. It has a worldwide workforce of more than 600 employees, five manufacturing facilities, 16 branch offices and a presence in more than 180 countries.
With a proven pedigree, it was ready to respond to Aruba’s challenge. Alongside a requirement for the best available technology at the right power output, Pramac’s solution had to meet ANSI TIA 942-A certification, an industry-defined quality standard that ensures power management in data centres is exceptional.
Taking all of that into account, Pramac designed a solution comprising nine generator sets, eight at 1,780 kVA and one at 875 kVA, powered by Perkins® 4012-46TAG3A and 4006-23TAG3A engines respectively.
The Perkins® 4000 Series engines chosen by Pramac pack the performance punch the customer needs while delivering exceptional power-to-weight ratios that minimise running costs. They also offer a compact design and tough, durable and reliable performance.
“The installation was specifically designed for the data processing centre of one of the most important Italian web service companies and built according to the ANSI TIA 942-A certification. We chose Perkins engines because we knew they could guarantee the continuous power required by the company for data centre certification. What’s more, Perkins engines are already integrated into our standard range.” |
