With over 90 years’ experience of supporting off-highway vehicle manufacturers, and a proven track-record of developing low emissions engines to meet global emissions standards, Perkins has the knowledge and expert people to guide original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) through the energy transition.
Perkins has garnered global success over the last nine decades because it has listened to and worked closely with OEMs, building engines that met their needs and solve their customers’ challenges. That was relatively easy for Frank Perkins in 1932 because his customers were close by and their needs weren’t all that complex. Today, of course, things are different.
Farmers in Brazil, hospitals and data centres in India, telecommunications companies in Africa, construction equipment manufacturers in China and thousands of other customers all around the world have different needs and requirements. Being a successful global power solution supplier starts with listening to all of them and that means having resources, capabilities and people in place wherever those customers are.
That’s one reason why Perkins engines are manufactured in the UK, the US, Brazil, India and China to meet the differing needs of local and regional industries. It’s also why there is a global network of Perkins authorised distributors and dealers to provide local support, expert service and genuine Perkins parts for the millions of Perkins engines at work every day.
The Perkins manufacturing facility in Wuxi, near Shanghai was established in 2007 to provide an effective regional manufacturing presence to meet the local needs of Chinese OEMs. Producing Perkins® 400, 1100 and 1200 Series engines configured for both electric power generation and industrial applications, the facility is also home to a Research and Development Centre dedicated to the development of these engines and a number of other advanced product solutions.
In short, Wuxi is an integral part of Perkins’ offering to help China’s and the world’s OEMs navigate the transition to sustainable new forms of energy and new ways of meeting their customer’s needs.
Wuxi, and the relationships built around it, aren’t the only examples of Perkins dedication to helping OEMs and end-users around the world meet the local challenges they face. Participation in events like Bauma China provide another opportunity to showcase the products and technologies they will need to be successful in a changing world.
“We’re excited to collaborate with customers and unlock opportunities to push past what’s possible in ways only Perkins can,” said Tommy Quan, Perkins Asia Sales Director. “To do that, we’re continuously developing and optimising a large, fast-growing portfolio of power and service solutions designed to help customers manage the energy transition to a lower-carbon future.”
Perkins’ latest engines were on show at the recent Bauma China exhibition, with the event the first time the next-generation 13-litre Perkins® 2600 Series industrial diesel engine was shown in China.
Tommy continued: “A key focus of the energy transition toward a lower-carbon future is the continued refinement of diesel engine designs to reduce fuel consumption, improve performance and prepare for the increased utilisation of renewable fuels. And I’m excited to say that the 2600 Series engine range ticks all those boxes.”
Scheduled for production in 2026, the industrial 2600 Series is a new 13-litre diesel engine platform designed to achieve best-in-class power density, torque, and fuel efficiency for heavy-duty off-highway applications.
The engine variant designed for higher emissions regulations, such as China Nonroad Stage IV, offers eight power ratings from 340 to 515 kW with up to 3,200 Nm of peak torque. Meanwhile, for specific applications and customers within China, a rating of 570 kW with up to 3,500 Nm of peak torque will also be made available, suited for China Nonroad Stage III emission standards. Additionally, its core architecture supports the future development of spark-ignited natural gas and hydrogen fuel capabilities.
The 2600 Series engine supports quality, reliability, and easier maintenance through numerous design enhancements, including the integration of components as well as a reduction in the number of leak joints. Together, the upgrades result in low fluid consumption and extended oil and fuel filter service intervals as long as 1,000 hours, reducing operating costs and downtime.
By modularising and eliminating components, the architecture of the 2600 Series is space-protected to accommodate configuration adjustments anticipated for future tiers of emission standards in the U.S. and EU without relocating customer connection points. The combination of the all-new rear gear train, stiffer core architecture, and common rail fuel system reduces noise when compared with Perkins' current 13-, 15- and single-turbo 18-litre engines.
Perkins also showcased its 2806J-E18TA, a powerful 18 litre, 6 cylinder inline engine which provides outstanding power density, low cost of installation and ownership. The 2806J is the ideal choice for hard-working construction applications such as large excavators and has been validated to deliver optimal performance in harsh working environments.
Meanwhile OEMs were also interested in the Perkins® 1204J-E44TTA, a powerful 4 cylinder option, that was also on show. The 1204J meets EU Stage V / U.S Tier 4 Final emissions standards and comes with a choice of engine configurations, while the robust technology allows machine manufacturers to integrate the 1204 range into their equipment with minimum re-engineering.
And finally, the Perkins® 904J-E36TA also attracted a lot of attention on the stand. The 904 Series engines offer a compact power solution for off-highway applications in construction, agriculture and industrial. The 4 cylinder engines deliver excellent performance in power, peak and low speed torque, fuel consumption and transient response.
As after sales service is also important for customers, Perkins displayed a range of aftermarket products including Perkins® 2000 Series overhaul kits, Perkins® Ecoplus fuel filtration and a range of common parts. Through a wide range of aftermarket products, Perkins will continue to support customers to get the best performance from their machines, for longer.
Available in the second half of 2025, the 2600 Series offers excellent load acceptance, fuel efficiency and versatility.
