Extra support to meet California’s emissions rules

California has some of the toughest engine emissions standards in the world. Happily, the Perkins 1200 Series already meets these standards. However, if things go wrong, there is additional help above our standard warranty packages for users to ensure that their operations remain as clean – and compliant – as possible.

All our engines are delivered complete with a standard warranty that covers the owner for the full engine repair costs if anything should go wrong within the first two years or 3,000 hours of operation.

The particular and stringent requirements of the California Emissions Regulations require a step up from this level of cover, which is now available as standard on all 1200 Series engines purchased for use in the State to offer additional peace of mind for operators. California introduced the emissions standards in response to persistent smog caused by the build-up of pollutants in a hot climate and it is leading the way in emissions reduction.

The 1200 Series warranty period for use in California is for 3,000 hours or for five years, whichever occurs first, after the date of delivery to the owner that operates the engine. This means that if an emission-related part fails during any of the warranty periods, the part will be repaired or replaced at no cost to the operator.

Exception in an emergency

Nor does the warranty stop there. Any affected part that is repaired or replaced under warranty is covered for the remainder of the original warranty period.

During the term of this warranty, Perkins Engine Company Limited will provide – through a Perkins distributor, Perkins dealer or other establishment authorised by it – the repair or replacement of any warranted part at no charge to the engine owner. There is an exception that in an emergency a customer can go to a non-Perkins distributor, but with one of the most comprehensive service and distribution networks in the industry, this is not likely to be needed.

Specifically, this longer warranty covers these emissions-related parts, components and systems:

  • Turbocharger
  • Inlet manifold
  • Fuel injection
  • Crankcase ventilation
  • Electronic engine control
  • Engine aftertreatment
  • Nitrous oxide (NOx) reduction
  • Aftertreatment regeneration device
  • The valves, switches, hoses, clamps, connectors, tubing and sealing devices used in these

Of course, the key to keeping your engine running as long and efficiently as possible is to keep to the suggested maintenance schedules and regimes for the 1200 Series.
