Perkins 1100 Series establishes itself in the market place

Part of the Perkins 1100 Series family, the 6 cylinder M300C electronic engine originally launched in 2010 has been gaining momentum and establishing itself in the market place as an efficient and cost effective engine. Most recently, two M300C’s have been equipped on board a vessel which caught a record breaking 730Ib Black Marlin in Kenya.

For 45 years Kingfisher Fishing has been one of the leading leisure deep sea fishing charter companies in Kenya. In 2010 Angus Paul, son of the founder contacted his long term supplier D.B. Marine based in Cookham-on-Thames for a pair of replacement engines for his aging Sabre engines. The criteria was that the engines must deliver high torque at low RPM, and above, all they needed to be reliable.

“When you’re over 200 miles out into the Indian Ocean, there’s no RNLI to call if you get into trouble, we need reliable engines. In late 2010 D.B. Marine shipped two M300C’s to Kenya and in 2011 they were put into service.”

Today the engines have had 4000 hours use and have delivered a significant fuel saving for Kingfisher Fishing. “The M300C has the reliability other engine manufacturers would envy; it really is a no brainer,” stated Angus.

Kingfisher Fishing is now working on a replacement program for the rest of the fleet with Mark Kennett at D.B. Marine.

With an output of 225 kW at 2400 rpm, and a peak torque of 1050 Nm @ a low 1400 rpm the M300C offers an excellent power to weight ratio,  is clean, quiet and smooth when in operation and is easy to maintain with 500hr service intervals. Part of the 1100 Series family, the reliable M300C is easy to install whether as part of a retrofit or new build, uses Bio Diesel up to B20 and is approved for use with Military fuels.
