Q2 sales of UK construction equipment jump more than 70 percent on 2020

Construction and earthmoving equipment sales continue to be extremely strong, reports the Construction Equipment Association (CEA). In June, retail sales were 75 percent higher than the same month last year when the industry was recovering from the first COVID-19 lockdown.

Total sales across Q2 were more than double those seen last year, with over 10,000 units sold. Across the first half of the year, sales topped 18,000 units, a 73 percent jump on the first half of last year.

The buoyancy of the market isn’t just down to the post-pandemic recovery. Sales are also up on 2018 (4 percent) and 2019 (7 percent) for the first half of the year.

The most robust sales growth is in telehandlers, with sales for the first six months of 2021 more than double last year’s levels.
