Manitou Group has set targets of a 46 percent reduction in direct and indirect carbon emissions and a 34 percent reduction in Co2 emissions per hour of machine use by 2030 according to a report from IVT International. The plan is based on data from the Science Based Targets initiative which is supported by the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), the United Nations and the World Resources Institute (WRI).
Manitou outlined a series of tactics they will use to meet these targets including:
New electric and hydrogen powered equipment
Building on existing energy efficiency work undertaken over the last decade
Emphasise eco-design and a global life cycle focus
Increased use of recycled materials across all aspects of the business
Utilise low carbon incoming and outgoing freight opportunities
Optimise spare parts acquisition via the circular economy model
Reduce energy consumption across the organisation while increasing reliance on green energy
All of the goals will be measured using 2019 as the base year.
