Supporting the best of agricultural journalism

Perkins has sponsored the prestigious Power on the Farm Award, alongside the British Guild of Agricultural Journalists (BGAJ), for more than 40 years. It’s a chance to show our ongoing commitment to agriculture, while supporting the latest crop of reporting talent.

As a leading engine supplier to customers across agriculture, Perkins shows its support for the industry at every opportunity. One of the longest-standing examples is our 46-year partnership with the BGAJ and the Perkins Power on the Farm Award.

The award sees Guild members submit their best articles or broadcasts from the previous year on the theme of farm power, in all its forms.

A judging panel, made up of a Perkins sales director, a member of the Guild and the previous year’s winner, assesses all the entries, before inviting the writers of the four best examples to a sumptuous awards lunch. Winners pick up prizes of £2,000, £1,000, £500 and £250.

This year’s event took place in London’s world-famous Savoy Hotel on July 26. Winners took a tour of the historic building and enjoyed both a butler and cocktail-making masterclass before sitting down for the awards dinner. Freelance journalist and farmer Andrew Faulkner took the top prize.

Services and standards

As well as celebrating great writing, the event gives Perkins a platform to build awareness of its products, services, standards and values with some of the sector’s most influential people.

“We continue to support the event as it builds great relationships within the agriculture sector and with the journalists themselves,” said Perkins events and hospitality manager Claire Cox. “The agricultural sector is where Perkins began and it will always remain important to our brand.”

Perkins has previously sponsored the Guild’s website and the International Federation of Agricultural Journalists (IFAJ) Congress. We’re currently working together on the Perkins Global Innovation Scholarship, which gives Guild members a chance to win £5,000 towards international travel and professional development.
