Generator set owners worldwide rely on Perkins® 4000 Series engines for prime and back-up power. To maximise the working life of these engines, and in response to customer feedback, Perkins has launched new, simplified overhaul kits, which can be used on all 4000 Series diesel engines*, including 6 and 8 cylinder inline, 12- and 16-cylinder vee models.

Known for their performance and durability, often a full overhaul of a 4000 Series engine may not be necessary. The new overhaul kits provide the factory fit and performance of genuine Perkins parts, simplify ordering with a single part number, supply peace of mind with a 12-month standard Perkins warranty, and by containing only the parts that are needed, customers are left with no unnecessary waste or expense.

A complete range of solutions

Available now from Perkins distributors worldwide, each modular kit contains the latest specification Perkins genuine parts, that have been manufactured to fit your specific engine, restoring to optimal working condition with better compression, efficiency, power, and fuel economy.

Copper and silver kits have been developed to support servicing requirements that take place every 15,000 hours.

Copper kits* are designed for single cylinder head overhauls:

  • Top gasket: This kit includes head gasket (combustion ring), exhaust/induction gaskets, rocker box gasket, rocker cover gasket and seals. The typical usage is a cylinder head overhaul required every 15,000 hours.

  • Valvetrain: This kit includes valves, guides, seats, springs, injector tube, injector washer and seals. The typical usage is a cylinder head overhaul / service every 15,000 hours.

The silver kit* is for single cylinder overhauls:

  • The kit includes piston, piston rings, cylinder liner, gaskets and seals, and conrod bolts, and is designed for major overhaul inspections, that are typically required every 15,000 hours.

To compliment the new range of overhaul kits, Perkins has also introduced a range of gasket kits, which include inspection door seals, oil cooler seals, and additional gaskets for 4012 and 4016 engines.

The benefits of modular kits

One of the world’s most dependable engine platforms for prime and standby applications, the 4000 Series is built for efficiency and dependability. As the engines use many of the same parts across different engine models, a relatively small inventory can service a lot of engines.

“Perkins engines are built for the long haul, offering industry-leading performance, reliability, durability and value,” said Matt Burton, senior product lifecycle manager. “Our new overhaul kits for the full diesel range of Perkins 4000 Series allow equipment owners to select the precise mix of components they need to revitalise their engines and achieve even greater returns on their investments.”

Matt continued: “The kits are ideal for single and multiple cylinder overhauls, ensuring greater stock availability compared with complete overhaul solutions. We can help to specify kits depending on the required service, including head replacement, head overhaul, single cylinder overhaul – full replacement or ‘re-ring’ and full bottom end overhaul, giving great flexibility and convenience for engine overhaul needs.”

Perkins 4000 Series engines provide proven power for generator sets in Europe, Africa, the Middle East, Asia, and LATAM. Customers should review the engine’s Operational Maintenance Manual and seek guidance from a qualified technician to ensure the correct kit is utilised.

Perkins also offers basic overhaul kits for heritage engines, 400 and 1100 Series engines, and 2000 Series engines.
