Technicians for the World is a free online programme for prospective employees seeking a new and exciting career as a Perkins distributor service technician.

To promote the importance of technical skills, the curriculum consists of 12 courses and is estimated to take approximately 20 hours to complete.  Available globally, the programme will initially launch in English, with six additional languages – Chinese, French, Portuguese, Spanish, Arabic, Turkish – being added as they become available.

And for would-be technicians, once the free online training modules have been undertaken, a digital Perkins Certificate of Completion will be sent to you.

Learn from the engine experts and become a skilled professional

Every year, service opportunities grow, representing an increasing need for technical talent. The industry needs people who are curious, keen to learn and eager to work with real machines in the field. To support the need for a technician pipeline to help strengthen the growing Perkins distributor network and position the business for new opportunities, Perkins has developed Technicians for the World.

No prior experience is required to undertake the course, although an interest in engines - likely through attending a technical school or an apprenticeship - and how they power the world will really help! Once you enrol, you can study the online course for free through a smartphone, tablet or computer, with all learning undertaken at your own pace.

What will you learn?

Through a series of interactive modules, you will learn:

  • How modern diesel engines work and where they are used

  • Key engine components and their functions

  • Introduction to maintenance and operational safety

  • Responsible handling of machinery and tools

  • Careers in technical and mechanical fields

  • How to apply your knowledge in real-world scenarios

Upon completion of the course, you will receive a digital Certificate of Completion, recognising your hard work and learning achievement. It’s a positive first step for anyone keen on pursuing and demonstrating their interest in a technical career.

Why become a technician?

“I really enjoy doing roadside assistance, working in the field, doing a lot of hands-on work,” explains Felipe from Perkins distributor MD Power in Brazil. “When you use the scanner, the electronic tool, it becomes much easier to find the problem.

“Having a certificate, especially from such a big company like Perkins will open doors. Get interested, really commit, because it’s a wonderful profession that only has benefits.”

Rodney from one of Perkins’ US distributors, Pathfinder, enthuses: “Learning all the Tier 4 stuff from the Perkins side, gives me a broad knowledge of any type of engine.”
