Perkins has launched a new range of electronic 1.7 and 2.2 litre engines targeted at the requirements of the rental market. The Perkins Syncro 1.7 litre, 3 cylinder turbocharged option, along with two 4 cylinder options, both 2.2 litre, one turbocharged and the other turbocharged and aftercooled. All engines meet U.S. EPA Tier 4 Final emission standards.
Several design features make these engines particularly suited to the rental market. They have a high-pressure fuel system, which gives a cleaner combustion burn. This means the engine doesn’t require a diesel particulate filter (DPF) or the addition of diesel exhaust fluid (DEF). Instead the 1.7 and 2.2 litre engines use a simple diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC) aftertreatment system, which is service free, meaning there’s no machine downtime.
It also requires no regeneration or additional operator functionality.
This ease of use and reduced downtime has real benefits for the rental market. It means satisfied end users, less maintenance and lower repair costs for the rental company. And satisfied rental companies are more likely to return to the same OEM for future equipment.
