Perkins: the right choice for rental machines

Perkins: the right choice for rental machines

Perkins plays a leading role in rental markets across the globe – and it’s a booming sector that Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) can’t ignore. Our engines are trusted by rental houses and operators looking for flexibility, reliability, ease of use and low cost of ownership. The Perkins® Syncro 1.7 and 2.2 litre range will further strengthen our offering. Our dedicated support exceeds expectations, which reflects just as well on the machines we power as it does on Perkins.

The rental equipment market is booming across the globe. Increasingly, OEMs are seeing rental as an important and profitable opportunity.

Of all the engines that Perkins supplies to the rental sector, the Perkins Syncro 1.7 and 2.2 litre engines are a trusted favourite because the most popular equipment for rent – such as aerial equipment, light towers, welders, air compressors and generators – falls into its horsepower range.

Perkins has launched a new range of electronic 1.7 and 2.2 litre engines targeted at the requirements of the rental market. The Perkins Syncro 1.7 litre, 3 cylinder turbocharged option, along with two 4 cylinder options, both 2.2 litre, one turbocharged and the other turbocharged and aftercooled. All engines meet U.S. EPA Tier 4 Final emission standards.

Service-free solution

Several design features make these engines particularly suited to the rental market. They have a high-pressure fuel system, which gives a cleaner combustion burn. This means the engine doesn’t require a diesel particulate filter (DPF) or the addition of diesel exhaust fluid (DEF). Instead the 1.7 and 2.2 litre engines use a simple diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC) aftertreatment system, which is service free, meaning there’s no machine downtime.

It also requires no regeneration or additional operator functionality.

This ease of use and reduced downtime has real benefits for the rental market. It means satisfied end users, less maintenance and lower repair costs for the rental company. And satisfied rental companies are more likely to return to the same OEM for future equipment.

It’s not just our engines that make Perkins stand out in the rental arena. Unrivalled dedication and support come with every engine – and that’s something that brings even more benefits to OEMs.

Rental support programme

In North America, we offer our rental customers a Rental Support Programme, a unique support facility to get machines up and running – and back out for rent – as quickly as possible.

The programme provides training to rental companies and customised solutions that minimise downtime. Along with our seamless warranty provision, fast and simple ordering procedures and speed of response, this adds up to lower costs and improved profitability.

A better experience

Our commitment and effort in support of rental customers gives them a better experience of Perkins engines as well as the OEM’s products they power.

And because Perkins works with both OEMs and rental houses, we can act as a useful conduit for escalating issues and ensure there’s a constant process of improvement between engine and machine.

By offering such a meaningful service to rental companies, we help them achieve what matters most to them – maximising their return on investment. By doing so, we not only enhance the proud reputation of Perkins, but also the machines that our engines power.
