Equipment most commonly hired out – including aerial equipment, light towers, welders, air compressors and generators – falls into the horsepower range this compact range offers.
Perkins has launched a new range of electronic 1.7 and 2.2 litre engines targeted at the specific requirements of rental houses. The Perkins Syncro 1.7 litre comes in a 3 cylinder turbocharged option, along with two 4 cylinder options, both 2.2 litre, one turbocharged and the other turbocharged and aftercooled. All engines meet U.S. EPA Tier 4 Final emission standards.
A number of design features make the engines particularly suited to rental. They have a high-pressure fuel system, which gives a cleaner combustion burn. This means the engine doesn’t require a diesel particulate filter (DPF) or the addition of diesel exhaust fluid (DEF). Instead the 1.7 and 2.2 litre engines use a simple diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC) aftertreatment system, which is service free, meaning there’s no machine downtime.
It also requires no regeneration or additional operator functionality.
