Bauma 2016: cementing Perkins place as a global leader in construction

Perkins laid out its plans at Bauma 2016 for powering the construction sector of tomorrow. The innovative Perkins® Syncro range – a flexible engine offering designed to meets the needs of global equipment manufacturers – was launched at the show. An extension of our industrial range to cover power requirements from 8.2 up to 597 kW (11-800 hp) attracted strong interest as did a wide range of service and support options including the new Perkins diesel engine oil and Platinum Protection.

Perkins reinforced its position as a true global partner for Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) in the construction sector at Bauma 2016 – the biggest yet, with 580,000 visitors from 200 countries.

The show was the perfect opportunity to present some of the biggest changes to the company’s product range for more than 20 years. The highlight was the launch by president Ramin Younessi of the new family of Perkins Syncro engines, designed to meet and exceed the needs of OEMs.

The range comprises 2.8 litre and 3.6 litre options, has a modular design and provides the flexibility to meet different emissions standards – including EU Stage V. This enables OEMs to access multiple territories without designing different machines, saving time and money.

A significant extension to the industrial engine range, which now covers 8.2-597 kW (11-800 hp) was also unveiled. This gives us the most comprehensive portfolio of engines in the industry, meaning OEMs can come to a single supplier – Perkins – for all their engine needs for their global machine line-up.

Bauma 2016 also saw leading manufacturers showcasing their latest machines. Many of them were powered by Perkins engines, including:

  • JCB’s 8008 CTS with our 403D-07 and 8018 CTS with our 403D-11
  • Doosan’s DX140LCR and DX165w excavators, both powered by our 1204F engine
  • Terex’s TLB 890 backhoe loader, which is powered by our 1104D-44TA
  • Atlas Weyhausen’s wheel loaders, the Weycor AR30 and AR40, powered by our 403D-15T
  • The Tecnogen Spa hybrid lighting tower featuring our 403D-07 engine
  • Hidromek’s backhoe loader 102s powered by our 1104D-44TA
  • Terex Genie GHT-4018 and GHT-5021R telehandlers, both running on our 1104D-44TA
  • Oyman Makina’s newly launched mobile concrete mixer featuring our 1104D-44TA
  • Teksan’s TJ1500PE-HDLT hybrid power system with the 403A-11G and TJ21PE5S generator set with the 404A-22G.
  • Tehnolink’s PR110 generator set with the 1104C-44TAG2
  • Generac’s DWP-S6 diesel driven pump with the 404D-22

The Perkins stand attracted big crowds throughout the week-long event. Along with the excitement generated by our engine launches, visitors had a chance to see exhibits that focused on our continued care for OEMs and customers who use our engines. Among highlights:

  • Our newly released Perkins diesel engine oil was showcased, demonstrating impressive benefits with delegates, including how it maximises engine life, controls emissions and reduces the cost of maintenance
  • We also launched Perkins Platinum Protection to the construction sector, replacing Extended Service Contracts. Perkins experts outlined the comprehensive, flexible and transferable cover that extends our support for our engines, and brings value for money and peace of mind

Bauma provides us with a great opportunity to engage with the users of our products. I had the pleasure of meeting construction, generator set and agricultural machinery customers from all over the world. That just emphasises the breadth and reach of applications that Perkins engines are installed into. I also received a lot of positive feedback from customers on our new Perkins Syncro range as they said it would enable them to access new markets to grow their business.
