Taking part in the business apprentice scheme has enabled me to experience a variety of roles within sales and marketing, whilst also allowing me to take responsibility and develop my career aspirations. Perkins provides you with ‘on the job’ experience coupled with funded and supported study, a perfect balance.

It’s a really comprehensive scheme so by the end of the Apprenticeship, with the opportunity to study for a work based Business Management and Leadership Degree in which I will have gained a wide array of knowledge covering crucial aspects of the business and gaining vital experience.

The experience in each department has developed my understanding of the Perkins product and the company as a business. The scheme has played a crucial role in my development and has helped me identify my future career ambitions within the company

I joined Caterpillar in September 2008 straight from college after completing three A-Levels in Business, Law and English Literature and Language. My first placement was in the Compensation and Benefits team in the Human Services Division where I worked on the administration for the company Share scheme. I was involved in the Share buy and sell which introduced me to high levels of workload and learning how to work under pressure. I remained in that position for a year whilst completing my NVQ in Business Administration.

I applied for the Business Apprenticeship whilst working full time for an Agricultural Organisation, I wanted to apply as I had heard about both the technical and the business apprenticeships available at Perkins and the idea of having the chance to move around an area of the business whilst studying really appealed to me.
