Perkins at Bauma 2010
Bauma 2010
Perkins – Hall A4, Stand 115/314
Perkins Engines is exhibiting its full range of Tier 4 Interim / Stage IIIB compliant engines at this year’s Bauma.
The range is designed to not only offer specific power outputs but also a choice of engine configurations and options that provide OEMs with the ability to ‘design-in’ the engine into the application with the minimum of re-engineering.
The award winning 1200 Series forms a key part of Perkins’ new range of cleaner, compact diesel engines, and provides OEMs with a power span from 60kW to 225kW (80 to 300hp).
On show at Bauma representing the 1200 Series are:
1206E-E70TTA offering 225 kW at 2200 rpm
1204E-E44TTA offering 129 kW at 2200 rpm
The 1206E-E70TTA is a 7 litre, 6-cylinder unit capable of producing 225kW (300 hp) which represents a 21% increase in power over Perkins’ current 6.6 litre offering, giving OEMs who may have previously chosen a larger engine, the choice of the same power from a smaller engine package.
The model is fitted with two turbochargers – one small, one large - which are mounted in series. The smaller first stage turbo accelerates quickly, giving excellent response and torque at low speeds, while the larger second stage provides the high airflow required to provide class leading power density.
Below 130kW (175hp), a shorter stroke version – the 1206E-E66TA - is a 6.6 litre engine, which will be of interest particularly to those customers who require lots of torque at low engine speed.
Both 1206 models utilise a diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC) and diesel particulate filter (DPF) to ensure compliance with the forthcoming regulations on particulate emissions.
Lower down the scale the new 1204 model replaces the popular current 1104 engine. The 4.4 litre, 4-cylinder engine is offered in a choice of two versions; the turbo, intercooled version - the 1204E-E44TA - produces 110kW, and uses a single turbocharger and is intercooled, providing improved fuel economy while offering greater power and torque; the twin turbo, aftercooled model – the 1204E-E44TTA - is rated at 130kW and employs a two-stage turbocharger, like the 7 litre engine, for extra power density and faster response.
All 1200 Series engines for Tier 4 Interim/Stage IIIB make use of Perkins’ NOx Reduction System (NRS), with field trials indicating significant improvements in fuel consumption and sound quality over existing Tier 3 models.
Following extensive integration work with customers, Perkins has embarked on a rigorous machine installation and validation programme. Prototype six and four cylinder engines are currently being validated in a number of machines, with over 50,000 hours on the test bed and 4,000 hours in machines already logged.
Bauma will also be the first showing for Perkins’ new 854 Series compact, four cylinder 3.4 litre engine. The 854 Series builds on Perkins’ strength and ability to tailor power solutions for individual customer needs. Significantly the new model will allow Perkins to offer customers greater power density and compactness to suit their precise requirements, whatever the application.
Offering more power and torque from a smaller package, customers will now be able to move seamlessly through the power bands as the 854E produces 45kW (60hp) up to 86kW (115hp).
The 854E range benefits from a common rail fuel injection system, smart waste-gated turbocharger and aftercooler, all regulated by full authority electronic controls to ensure world-class performance and fuel consumption.
Starting from 2011, the engine, which develops a peak torque of up to 420Nm, will be available in the 2,200 to 2,500rpm speed range.
In keeping with all Perkins’ Tier 4 Interim / Stage IIIB product range, the 854E has been developed using extensive “voice of the customer” research. To meet these requirements, the range features a strong emphasis on power density, fuel consumption and performance, giving OEMs choice and support if downsizing is desired.
“The increased torque, power density and performance of the 854E, complements Perkins’ Tier 4 Interim / Stage IIIB product range which we are confident will meet customers’ requirements. The power and performance provided by the new engine offering also supports downsizing which could help OEMs minimise the need for machine redesign in this cost sensitive climate,” said Allister Dennis, Perkins’ new product marketing manager.
Perkins’ popular 400 Series, which is already Tier 4 Interim / Stage IIIB compliant, will also be on show at Bauma. The engine range, which has a power span from 8.2 to 49.3 kW (10.9 to 66.9 hp) has proved immensely popular with OEMs manufacturing compact machinery, and currently powers more than 200 different applications.
On show at Bauma representing the 400 Series are:
404D-22 offering 38 kW @ 3,000 rpm
403D-07 offering 15.3 kW @ 3,600 rpm
The 400 Series is a range of tough 2, 3 and 4 cylinder water-cooled engines which provide clean, quiet and cost-effective power. The range offers naturally aspirated, turbocharged and aftercooled models, with the additional choice of mechanically balanced ratings.
