Perkins Stafford awards first prize to energy conscious students

Perkins Stafford has given enthusiastic eco-conscious students the chance to go green and reduce their school’s energy consumption.

Primary schools from around Staffordshire were invited to enter Perkins Stafford’s 14th annual Eco Awards competition, the theme of this year’s event being energy.

Schools from across Stafford submitted their project ideas on how they were already reducing their energy consumption and proposals for future reductions and alternative energy sources.

The school entries, which were of a very high standard, were whittled down to three finalists; Leasowes Primary, Barnfields Primary and St Leonards Primary.

Asked to present their ideas on how energy is used and how it can be reduced in front of a panel of Perkins judges, the students showed their commitment to reducing waste both at school and at home.

After much deliberation the winning school was named as St. Leonard First School from Dunston.

“Their ‘Energy’ project was very well presented and their enthusiasm was outstanding,” said Perkins’ assembly, test and finish manager Andy Ashton, as he presented the pupils with a £400 donation to help fund their energy saving ideas.

The visit to Perkins’ facility in Tixall Road also included a factory tour and the release of a large number of environmentally friendly balloons into the Stafford skies.
