Lipstick and trainers for Midnight Walk

Women in Peterborough are being urged to put on their lipstick and trainers and be part of a night to remember next month when Sue Ryder Care organizes its second Midnight Walk to raise funds for Thorpe Hall Hospice.

The 12-mile walk around the city will take place on Saturday May 16 and it’s hoped that this year’s walkers will top the £110,000 raised from last year’s event.

Among the first to pledge to put on their lipstick and trainers for the overnight trek is a team of colleagues from Perkins, headed by new company president Gwenne Henricks.

“I’m really looking forward to taking part in this year’s Midnight Walk. Sue Ryder Care is Perkins’ charity of the year, and I’m keen to raise as much as I can to support Thorpe Hall Hospice,” said Gwenne.

An additional two miles have been added to this year's course which starts and finishes at Serpentine Green, Hampton. Entry is £12 and each walker will receive a T-shirt, sponsor form and special Midnight Walk goodies. There will be refreshments along the way and a well-deserved breakfast at the finish line.

Places will be limited, so early registration is advised. Last year, 1,000 women tackled the walk and it is hoped that even more will be on the start line next month.

Sue Ryder Care fundraiser Helena Waters said: “Last year we had to close entry early because numbers far exceeded our expectations, so we are hoping that everyone will register in good time.

“Last year’s walk was such fun and we were overwhelmed by the support for our first year. But the Midnight Walk relies on sponsorship to be successful so we’re asking every woman to raise as much sponsorship money as possible for the hospice.”
