Perkins’ 39th classical concert goes ‘green’ to promote the local environment
A night of classical music performed by the acclaimed BBC Concert Orchestra awaits visitors to this year’s Perkins Classical Concert on Thursday June 5.
Held at Peterborough Cathedral the 39th Perkins classical concert forms part of the city’s Green Festival celebrations – which the company is supporting.
Following the success of last year’s event, which was attended by more than 500 people, the concert will again be held in the impressive and historic Peterborough Cathedral.
“It’s a wonderful venue in which to enjoy the performance by the BBC Concert Orchestra,” said Adrian Talbot, Perkins’ marketing communications services manager.
“We hope the local community will come together to enjoy the concert which this year supports Peterborough Environment City Trust’s Green Festival. In keeping with the festival the orchestra has put together a programme of works which are inspired by or evoke an environmental theme.”
The programme of works, conducted by Charles Hazlewood, includes Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons and extracts from the BBC’s Planet Earth. There will also be a solo performance from violinist Alexander Sitkovetsky.
The concert, which starts at 7.30pm, also features the presentation of the Perkins’ Young Musician Awards – an annual competition to recognise and reward musical talent.
Tickets for the concert priced £15 or £10 for senior citizens and students, are now available from Stamford Arts Centre's box office on 01780 763203. The centre is open Monday to Saturday 9.30am to 8pm. Payment can be made by cash, cheque or credit card.
Cathedral doors will open at 6.30pm. All tickets must be purchased in advance.
