Perkins digs deep to support SENSE
More than 30 volunteers from Perkins dug deep for charity when they completed two garden makeovers for Peterborough based SENSE.
A team of eight tended to SENSE’s Newton Court residence in Paston, to completely revamp the garden area.
At SENSE’s request, volunteers removed the gravel and existing water feature from the garden and replaced it with a paved area able to accommodate garden furniture and a barbecue.
The second phase of the project saw 25 volunteers complete their very own ground force at SENSE’s Redgate Court in Parnwell.
To improve the shared garden, which is used by 12 residents, the team cut back hedges, cleaned and stained benches and tables, and planted shrubs and herbs.
Both projects, which will make a difference to the residents’ lives, were supported by a donation from Perkins’ community fund. Peterborough based Keyline has also supported the charitable project.
Sylvia Welford, based at Peterborough SENSE said: “The deafblind people and their supporting teams would like to extend their sincere thanks to Perkins and Keyline for their generous donations and manpower toward the completion of the garden projects at Newton Courts and Redgate Courts.
“The changes to both gardens will enhance the lives of the deafblind individuals through their pleasant surroundings, sensory stimulation and the opportunity to socialize and relax after work and at weekends.”
